1970s Enicar 'Garnix' Chronograph Silver Dial Valjoux 72 36.5mm

Here we have a 1970s Enicar 'Garnix' Chronograph Silver Dial Valjoux 72, the collector's nickname Garnix is German for ‘Nothing’, with reference to its minimalist design and lack of model name on the dial. Featuring a 36.5mm round stainless steel case that sits comfortably on your wrist, thanks to the sharp-angled flat-ended lugs. Its curved, chamfered flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 41mm and a case thickness of 12mm. On the right side, we have the piston pushers and a signed coin-edged crown in the centre. The stepped smooth bezel holds a box-shaped crystal above a striking silver tricompax dial. A Tachymeter scale surrounds a precisely executed minute track above applied baton indexes and lume pips marking the hours. The chronograph consists of a 30-minute, a 12-hour and finally a running seconds, each sitting recessed with a concentric circular pattern and a stick hand. Slender baton hands are filled with lume and complemented by a red lollipop chronograph hand. At noon, we have the Enicar Saturn motif completing this distinctive minimalist vintage chronograph. On the reverse, a screw-down solid case back is engraved with the details of the watch and a round wave pattern, shark and Saturn in the centre. Inside a manually wound Valjoux 72, 17 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. First introduced in 1938, this column wheel movement was made more robust than the earlier Valjoux 22. It comes paired with a well-suited 19mm strap and pin buckle.
